Links as Pennies and Old Ben Franklins
I was just listening to Chuck Price (Sales and Mgmt at WBP) on the phone with a prospective client. At one point he was explaining how it’s not all about the number of links that makes the difference, it’s the quality of those numbers that matters.
He used an analogy of something like this:
Links are like currency and coins. Not all coins are equal. 25 pennies (0.01 each) do not equal an old Ben Franklin ($100.00).
I about fell out of my seat laughing – it’s so true and that’s a great way to think about links!
I might add though….
"And a link that might be a penny to you, could be a $100.00 to someone else’s site, and vice versa."

I really like that analogy because everyone can understand it on one level or another. The first I heard it used was on SEOmoz at http://www.seomoz.org/blog/the-things-you-didnt-know-you-didnt-know (even though the site is currently down for me).
That is a great one! It is true though… not all links are created equal.
Very good one. A little better than a “link is a like a vote analogy” and then having to bring the electoral college into the mix 🙂
That is a great analogy…most links are worth at least $5 to me though 🙂
This is a great way to look at a links value.
I have a future client that I really want to read this post. It may push them into what I have been trying to present to them, that a well written linkbait post is better than 100 auto-generated posts.
Thanks,
Mark
Very well said Jim!
That makes sense in a simple way! Well not all the sites are worthy as much to one than it could be to other.

Just ask TextLinkAds.com, they will tell you the exact value of a link – typically between $20-100/mo. Thats one and one Jackson and one Franklin.
Ah so true! I wish all links were created equal….that would make my life so much easier!
